in my life I've known a few people who were bi but apologetic for not being "attracted enough" to guys and like, it just makes me somewhat sad that people think there's some threshold they have to pass to "qualify" it's all just labels, you can be attracted to guys and not identify as gay

I think in broad terms a lot of people like to co-opt things to turn them into rules about how you can make other people more comfortable, but your identity is your own and the only box you have to fit is the one that makes you happiest

I think part of it is that in media it's often played as an an ti climax or a rug pull, but like, our world puts an extreme level of pressure onto the contradictory rules of what being "straight" and a "real man" are and you have to face that at some point or it'll fuck you up

honestly, this is more of a gay thing than other letters since that's what I'm more familiar with, but I'm sure it persists into L B and T as well, but I find people get so possessive over the concept of exploring one's sexual identity

like it's something I always pick up on when Persona 4 discourse comes back, where people are really dismissive of the actual textual version of Kanji's story, but like, straight people also need to actually examine themselves fully and honestly to be healthy, that's not just a gay thing
