So annoying that the Trump administration is going after “fat” people while simultaneously clawing back funding for projects that would give people a safe place to ride a bike, walk or jog.

I love that Cleveland Metroparks is using these efficient Kei trucks on their trails. These have great visibility and are relatively lightweight so are also safer for any potential collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.

One thing I think would be quietly revolutionary, is if more Americans could run an errand or two by foot.

If we were actually interested in reducing the number of kids dying in car wrecks we’d be better off just not letting teenagers drive at all than banning bicycling. But of course we focus on the healthy and innocent behavior and penalize that and treat it as the problem.

This 70-year-old man was probably first running for the bus, then running to avoid being hit by a driver. "Dart/dash". Monday, January 17, 2022, 5:37 pm, New Hampshire Ave/650 at Elton Rd, Silver Spring MD. The second pedestrian killed at that spot in 12 months.

Also ridiculous that the official coding guidance says that "stumbling" is darting or dashing crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/V... And that a dart or dash is a "non-motorist contributing circumstance" but driver errors are "related factors" and not assumed to contribute to crashes

In official NHTSA data, more people aged 75+ darted or dashed across a road when they were killed than were hit by speeding drivers in the last decade Anecdotally, I see a lot more speeding drivers than I see dashing elders

Occurs to me that this is a good indicator of a walkable, vibrant street corner. And also a civically engaged community. Shot in Cleveland’s tremont neighborhood in front of a first wave coffee shop that’s a gathering place for construction workers and elders.

This is a really cool and special spot in Cleveland, unusual urban planning sorta coup. This trail section (part of the 50+ mile Towpath Trail that goes from DT Cleveland south to Akron) used to a road. Houses here now front an active trail and some have converted their driveways to little patios
