this is going to sound crass but my main opinion on the recent vile, bigoted, deliberately anti-medical supreme court decision on trans care is that in the immediate term blue states have to rapidly build more housing and help people get here

Bodily autonomy is a human right. Transness isn't a disease that needs to be cured. We're a normal part of the spectrum that is the human condition. And we deserve to have the final say over our own bodies - not just because of the harm if we don't, but because they belong to us and not the state.

I am pretty tired of this argument. Journal articles and books are sometimes not widely accessible (although some are), but academics speak much more often to the public now, through the media, op eds, trade books, and public lectures, than in the past and anti-intellectualism has grown.

There are many reasons for anti-intellectualism, but in the current moment, much of it is political. We’re in a rightwing, segregationist backlash & colleges are viewed as bastions of progressiveness and integration AND sources of an alternative form of authority, making them dangerous to fascists.

I relate. It also brought up for me some family trauma. big abusive daddy telling me I should be grateful for everything he’s done for me. “Say thank you”- that just unraveled me.
