It would be nice for the Spirit to have a Black Excellence night during the season to celebrate the culture upon which this District was molded. It doesn’t have to be June 19th or February for Black excellence to be centered by any team.

Not sure how you can represent “Chocolate City” and not celebrate Blackness.

We stand with our friends @roseroomco.bsky.social and urge the @washingtonspirit.com to reconsider their decision to not host a game celebrating the Black DMV community, especially in a time when its needed most.

Every team in the league has multiple Black players. Every. Team. That shouldn't be the catalyst to celebrate Black people, but you should WANT your team to celebrate those players. They matter. Having to say that this month isn't what I expected.

It seems I missed some things today. A theme night to celebrate Black culture, when other cultures are celebrated with theme nights, isn't a big ask of every NWSL team. We are Black every day. You don't have to limit those days to February or June. Several teams found a way, including a new one.
