Join us in wishing Ume safe travels on her next adventure! It’s hard to believe the tiny calf who arrived looking like a little “watermelon on legs” is now a confident, independent young tapir ready for her next chapter. Over the past year, we’ve watched Ume grow, explore, and capture many hearts. ❤️

I must have taken 100s of photos of Purple Emperor larvae over the years, but this one, from today, is probably my favourite ... showing just how camouflaged a fully grown larva is against a leaf of its foodplant (Salix caprea, Goat Willow, in this case).

That most enthusiastic of bathers, the Blackbird. This male has fledgling birds who are still hidden deep in the hedgerow. The Little Owl is often flying here in the daytime at the moment and it's not safe for them to appear out in the open until they are more predator aware.

'Dandelions,' was painted by the Danish artist Bertha Wegmann around 1910. It wasn't an arbitrary choice of a plant to paint: the dandelion was used to promote the women’s liberation movement in Scandinavia because of its capacity for uncontrolled, strong-willed growth.

Good morning. The
#BirdOfTheDay
theme today is
#CamoOrContrast
, birds that blend in or stand out in their surroundings. The alt theme is
#monochrome
, b&w shots of any bird. Good luck. I’m going with European Golden Plovers contrasting with the rocky shore, taken yesterday.
