One thing that helps me a lot is thinking of my mind as a camera with a lens that can zoom WAY in or WAY out. Whenever you find yourself paralyzed by useless stress, zooming out toward the cosmic or in toward the infinitely moment-mindful is both healthy and wise. It's ALL reality.

I’m not kidding when I say I love a formal synthesis. This one is spot-on. Some of what’s happening is people are trying to have a historical gaze for events that are still happening. Is it definitionally authoritarian? Cannot know until bodies stop dropping. But you can know it feels authoritarian

I think we have to confront the fact that tens of millions of Americans have pledged slavish allegiance to a man who says explicitly that his benchmark for when America was great is 1913. And then we have to think about the possibility that we are in the throes of a nationwide mental health crisis.

Public progress and private prejudice. This conversation reminds me of Randall Kennedy’s critique — In our personal spheres we feel entitled to act on preference which often exposes the very racism/classism/elitism we claim to oppose publicly.

This is tragic. Anyone who was familiar with 18F knows those were some of the real heroes of government, who helped make government tech/digital services better for the public. They were doing real work that DOGE pretends to do, but is too ignorant to know how to do.

Many people used to like to say that “Twitter isn’t real life,” but now we have a federal government influenced in large part by people who spent the last decade as Twitter trolls. A few of us tried to warn that the online ops happening in plain sight needed to be taken far more seriously.
