Happy N7 day to those who celebrate! The Mass Effect trilogy, even after all these years, is still in my top 5 game experiences and possibly #1 (though it depends on my mood). It was my gateway to space themed games - prior to that I was fantasy only. Opened me up to other space themed stuff too.

My hot take is that all villains are tragic villains, if we're given sufficient access to their interiority & backstory. Redemption arcs & empathy with villains aren't about excusing harm - on the contrary, acknowledging humanity is to emphasise our constant, ongoing capacity to *choose otherwise*.

Why do most gamers have to be so publicly vicious about games they don't like? Y'all don't even know which ones I hate. There are several that I mock viciously in my head, but I leave it there, because other folks love them and I want them to have their joys. Why make life worse?

I think my motto for the rest of the year is going to be "it fixes what it fixes." Making dinner, finishing Chapter 5 revisions, doing my volunteer work: the fact that it doesn't fix EVERYTHING doesn't mean that it fixes NOTHING. The middle ground, where things fix what they fix, is where we live.

Despite cancer etc. the closest I have come to feeling truly despondent in the past 3 years was a moment this afternoon when I became sure DJT's xenophobic corruption machine was going to keep Mamdani from winning somehow. That they had become 100% unstoppable. Never been happier to be wrong.

News outlets saying that DJT "joked" that he was better looking than Mamdani remind me of when I pick the Dumb dialogue option in Outer Worlds 2 and the NPCs respond to my sincere confusion like "Hahaha, great joke! Anyway..."

Follower count continues to rise this week. Not sure if I should be warning folks I live with incurable cancer that will eventually lead to my death or warning them that I mostly just talk about writing and vidyagames and dumb little stuff that makes me happy.
