Unbelievable experience with the journal Palaeo3. Our manuscript was rejected because… they couldn’t find a second reviewer, and it had been in their system “too long” (7 weeks), according to the editor. In other words, just to preserve their review-speed metrics, they rejected our submission.

I agree with the data assimilation being a way forward, but we are going to need a lot more data! There are black holes with very little paleoclimate data, like much of the southern Pacific.

I’m mostly focused on the water isotope response to WAIS collapse at the LIG. At the moment a full collapse scenario seems most likely based on model agreement with the ice cores but we are still working to fully explore the parameter space.

However, evidence for an LIS outburst flood at ca. 125 ka and extensive early-LIG Antarctic melt suggests that Laurentide remnants may have persisted longer into the LIG than typically thought even as Antarctic melt accelerated. (see Zhou et al., 2022, their Fig 1. below)

Modeling study indicates asymmetric melting of Laurentide and Antarctica during the LIG. The inferred high sensitivity of Antarctica to warming/ocean forcing is alarming
