🧊Our researchers have just finished analysing ancient Antarctic ice spanning 1.2 million years of climate history! The Beyond EPICA project extends the ice core climate record by 400,000 years, helping us to understand long-term climate patterns and improve future predictions.

In a UN speech today, President Trump said that "all of these [climate] predictions were wrong". Back in 2019 I led a research effort to digitize old climate model projections and assess how well they did. Turns out they got future warming pretty spot on!

I doubt there is a “cause” for autism, but if I wanted to test for possible contributory factors, I wouldn’t ask an economist or a lawyer. I’d ask a medical scientist who could tell me what the scientific literature tells us. All of it: not just the bit that gives the answer I want to hear.

5. The fact that a significant part of WAIS was lost anyway still says we should avoid the climate that caused it. That requires us to reach net zero sooner rather than later.

4. Lessons for the future? This suggests we should expect significant ice loss from WAIS over the next decades to centuries, but makes the very worst case scenarios look slightly less realistic.

3. We find: a. The Ronne Ice Shelf survived b. But the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) certainly retreated . So it's good news and bad. The ice sheet retreated but didn't do the worst case that some models proposed. WAIS retreat was probably mainly in the Amundsen sector, not the Weddell.

2. Our article uses the Skytrain Ice Rise ice core to show what happened around the West Antarctic Ice sheet (WAIS) in the last interglacial, 125000 years ago. This is a time when Antarctic temperature was similar to what we expect in the next few decades. What we found follows in number 3.
