Happy International Asexuality Day, for all of the tired, exhausted and overhwhelmed ace and aro folks out there. The best way to celebrate your ace and aro-ness is by taking good care of yourself. Take a nap, go for a walk, take your meds, feed yourself, and drink water. Be good to yourselves.

We've got a new artwork from yesterday. All I asked him really was to draw each of an old/middle aged/young/child man and woman to use as generic NPCs (for now) and he's giving me great stuff.

Nunca me he tenido a mí misma por una persona creativa o con mucha imaginación, yo tiendo casi siempre a echar a andar por los caminos ya trillados. There are plenty of studios and tons of devs that want to seriously harm their own well-being in order to bring you great games. But they can't if you won't just try to look and think about other games just a little bit.

The world as it is now has almost no room for indies to survive, while big devs are pumping games full of slop, killing franchises and studios, and burning out and discarding devs like candy bar wrappers. This will not change if the players won't just look a little tiny bit into their choices.

Let me put it bluntly: Gamers, if you keep buying giant AAA games only, and you only play games made by people who can afford to shove it in front of you, games as you know it will die. As a player I know it doesn't feel like it, but games are dying, and it's because you only support the big boys.

PC prices too expensive? My game runs on my laptop I got when I went to college in 2009. It runs on this Microsoft surface with 4 gigs of ram and 128 MB of video ram. It fits on a CD. Not a DVD, a 700 mb CD. There are thousands like me. Just play indies and enjoy games made out of love.

For years, people with actual skills have been told to “adapt or die” to something they refuse to use. Now that one of those tiny sad services is closing, the internet is flooded with dudes crying about how “their ability to create is gone”. Guess what? That’s because you weren’t and you had none.

I'm sorry but if you have 4,000 employees and your revenue is 6 billion, you make 1.5 million per employee and if you can't make a profit margin there, you are simply embezzling it.

Small note. Mass layoffs like these are also a tactic to devalue the work because workers become more desperate while companies create false scarcity. Do not, ever, forget your worth. Don’t let them win. You make this industry exist. They don’t.

I'm so sick of seeing AI disclaimers like this. The solution to not having the budget for voice acting isn't to use AI, it's to not have voice acting at all! Games don't need VO to be good! By jamming in slopvoices, you're not making your game better, you're making it worse and reprehensible!

I played like 100 hours of Trails in the Sky games without VO and it was transcendent — if they sounded like AI idiots, I would never have continued! Giving your game characters lifeless temp voices and selling it is literally worse than just having nothing! Settle for self respect.

Critically analyzing what's in front of you and projecting/imagining a future described by a team are the only prerequisites to reviewing any of this stuff and if you can't do it you are worse than worthless: you are actively damaging and should either rubber stamp everything or get out of the way.

I've only had to deal with a few people like this in my career and I have enormous sympathy for everyone who has to deal with them regularly. It's fine to not have the talent or experience to do the work but if you literally cannot imagine a finished asset in place of a temp asset, please exit.

One common comment we'd get from Management/Ownership was "I know it's temp, but why is it so bad?" My memory of video game dev is: the dev team being surrounded by people trying to make the job of game dev harder, take longer, cost more.

I have again been asked if AI was used to make my game. For transparency, my minions used generative AI to make all the parts of the game that didn't benefit from a human touch, were too boring to make or not important enough to craft by hand. In other words, we didn't use any generative AI.
