Seems like misdirection is kind of their whole thing, fam. Very odd scoop from a very odd source. Even if it turns out to be true— 1) ICE moving detainees somewhere potentially more isolated/difficult to get to isn't a win & 2) The facility isn't "closing," just temporarily diverting operations

Re: ICE "evacuating" the Broadview facility I am hearing from some folks that ICE made a similar claim about a facility in Portland (that it was winding down operations) that was basically a fake out, with normal operations resuming there before long, so we are going to have to be vigilant.

Updates on this front from Chicago NLG: three protestors arrested before 1 p.m. today have been cited and released; at least one more arrest confirmed as of 5 p.m.

They just opened up the gate to allow even more agents to enter the ICE facility, then unloaded another volley of pepper balls from the rooftops the gate closed.

The feds keep emerging from the lot and then retreating. In this instance it was to protect another group of agents arriving. (After this, as the gate closes, they fire off another round of pepper balls at people just because)

They’ve fired a whole lot of pepper balls at us. Multiple people hit, including one struck in the head. They’re charging the crowd and seizing people outside Broadview. The air is barely tolerable from all the fumes.

Our friends are out in Broadview this evening capturing the nighttime protest. It’s looking like the agents are more violent than earlier today

i was on the ground today with our team and @mulchy.bsky.social and @djbyrnes1.bsky.social. being in a situation where feds are unafraid to shoot pepper balls and tear gas at protestors AND elected officials AND the media… we are in truly scary times. and it’s only the beginning.

As with all of his appearances, he's being weird/just had a weird stare down with people? Love that this is our timeline now

spoke with some good folks at an indie LA newsroom today. being a Black cofounder of an indie newsroom can feel so isolating more times than not. it’s nice to talk to other indie newsrooms who get it, who are aligned, who understand the importance of this moment and our responsibilities in it.
