yeah that is a wild lens on it – I was taught that an editor's job is to make the MS the best version of itself, and you can't do that with cruelty. You do need to be willing to ask pointy questions sometimes, but it's in service and support of the writer.

What is happening with ICE is not any sort of institutional change; nor is ICE necessarily a super-outlier when it comes to "testilying" and other acts of unreliable information. It's just that ICE has made it a coherent national story, so it's finally gaining real traction.
