Computational theory is about computers (i.e. "technology") in the same way that astronomy is about telescopes. Thinking that computation is not fundamentally important for biology because "a cell is not like a laptop" is to miss the forest for the trees. N/N

Big sigh. The FEP is just the principle of maximum entropy or maximum caliber, under the constraint that boundaries exist. Every now and then, people who do not understand the FEP opine about it loudly and uncharitably. This is yet another case in point. Skill issue!

A week after the events of the IIT letter, after speaking to people on both sides of the discussion, it really seems to have been poorly received by the vast majority of folks. Appropriately so. Hopefully we, as a community, will learn from this and do better

Are NeuroBros this intense always? You know, in Phil of Mind we have Bros claiming everything is made out of ExPeRiEnCe, that atoms are conscious, or say the darndest things as "RELAXED NATURALISM" (wtf does that even mean) and nobody bats an eye... guess we have extra tollerance to... stuff? 😂

And you may disagree with me, but a large portion of neuro-twitter agrees. Seniority does not shield someone (or many someones) from unprofessional behavior.

I do agree with this being the crux of the matter. I think the wording of the letter title was clearly a mistake, as evidenced by the way the discussion unrolled. I think much more would have been accomplished, and a more productive conversation created, with less inflammatory wording.
