Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but when a govt agent kills someone, I don't think gov't officials should make public statements about the lawfulness or justification of the killing prior to an actual investigation.

JA’s critiques are worth consideration. Of course, there are judgment calls re: coding that people will simply disagree over. Binary coding choices can be reductive. His highlighting of the counterfactuals, I think, are something worth attention. I’m scratching my head a bit about those myself.

I haven't read the SCOTUS-favors-the-rich paper yet, but think this post is an excellent discussion of how important it is to look at how a paper chooses to define something as subjective and mushy as "pro-poor" or "pro-rich." A LOT can turn on those definitions, and here they def seem contestable.
