Not only is this system an infringement on mental health patients' privacy, there is no evidence base behind its use in Inpatient wards. This system is also surveillance, and unhelpful for patients who do not consent to this and have trauma and/or symptoms involving surveillance.

Too many NHS trusts using this surveillance equipment

It can't be underestimated how important this is. Like 'SIM', this scandal has been uncovered by survivors themselves, not professionals. Anyone concerned about patient safety, the merging of the private sector & the state, misuse of technology, research ethics & human rights needs to read this.

‘Consent’ is also quite meaningless in these situations. I’d have consented to anything which meant they weren’t turning the lights on every hour to check on me. I also didn’t really care because I didn’t think I had a future. Now, I’d be appalled if there was footage of me on camera like this. /1

When asked by Rachel Troup, counsel to the inquiry, if the voices of those people "might not be as loud… as others", Mx Porter said: "The voices are loud, they are just not listened to."

Oxevision is a highly controversial for-profit surveillance technology being used by half of NHS trusts in mental health patient bedrooms. @stopoxevision.bsky.social have been campaigning since 2023 to halt its use.
