Getting a potential 40-goal scorer for $7mil and a potential top-10 goalie for $5.5mil is how you manage the cap to afford a Werenski, Larkin, or Matthews at some point.

You now have a goalie and two top-6 wingers locked up for a total AAV of $18.75mil for the foreseeable future. Could one or two of them bust, sure, but the potential upside of having a top-10 goalie and maybe 70 goals’ worth of wingers for that number is awesome.
