From the Sixers perspective...I think part of the calculus here is that they're mostly in cap hell the next three years regardless because of the Embiid deal. Swapping PG's 2-year mega deal for JB's 3-year mega deal doesn't make a massive difference the way it would for some teams.

The Jaylen Brown trade market is a version what happened to Trae Young, Ja Morant, LaMelo etc. Once you're on a big number...and if the league doesn't view you as clear top-15ish player...your trade value drops. Difference is Brown is a much more malleable player

on the positive side...Brown plays and he can absorb a lot of offense with at least reasonable efficiency. The Sixers (and Maxey specifically) could use that. I do think Brown increases your odds of just surviving a modern NBA season (and postseason).

this is the type of stuff that's just hard for me to look past with Brown. it's not one series or one year. it's literally a decade. just hard for me to believe it's a fluke and/or insignificant

The Sixers are building one of the most hooper teams of all time. Embiid, Brown, Maxey, VJ...even Philon. Just a murder's row of hoopers and bucket getters. I'm curious...and excited...to see what it all adds up to.

On the positive side... I think this helps a lot with the Maxey relationship. He's put up with a TON. And the new FO is showing major belief in him by making a win-now move.

It was cool to watch VJ operate in the midrange last season and test that part of his game. But I can't emphasize enough how important it is he find ways to get all the way to the rim. Like...that's his path to being a great offensive player.

Dean Wade is a fine role player. But this feels like a move you make when you're closer to contention than the Sixers are. I don't see any upside here. He's about to turn 30. He's pretty injury prone. And for him to be most useful you really need the stars to be healthy.

Between the Trae Young deal and the Julius Randle trade, it looks like some of the bottom-tier teams want to be more competitive. I still think this attempt at lottery reform will backfire in other ways (middle-tier teams opting to become worse, for instance). But so far it seems to be "working"

Of all this Giannis trade scenarios this feels like the best case for the rest of the league. He's going to a middling team that had to trade almost everything on the roster to get him *and* where he's a tricky fit with the lone remaining star. Maybe Spo makes it work. But I see 47-50 wins.
