Working on a short, military sci-fi hex crawl to run at a con at the end of the month. Have this idea of: instead of a random encounter table, have a set number of potentially hostile groups moving through the area and just put them on a schedule.

This is another metric where I’m like: in this case, there are no good ttrpgs. Not one. The “respects time” metric is confusing, and makes some assumptions about what the designer/players value that I take issue with. Also “engaging.” I bounce hard off of PBTA games, but wouldn’t say they’re /bad/.

When I attempted to find an origin of the term "Fiction First" a few years ago, the oldest mention I turned up was an RPG-dot-net post from 2010. It was a reply to the question "How does roleplaying affect non social aspects of your game?"

This past year I've been playing a lot of Twilight Imperium. Have a crew that plays it about once a month. I've also lately been getting Arcs to the table a lot. And last night started what will hopefully be a consistent game of Oath. It's got me thinking a lot about intrinsic motivation in games.

Got a game of Oath in tonight. The Chancellor managed to beat the Red Exhile in a race to victory. The result coming down to a die roll at the end of turn 6.
