I would like to tell a little tale about our view on the microbiomes' implications in pancreatic cancer. As pathologists, we mostly focus on the tumor tissue itself, not on non-neoplastic tissue afar from the tumor. Thus, we focus on the intratumoral microbiomes and its meaning for patient outcome.

Complete loss of SMAD4 expression in a pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Diagnostically very helpful in difficult lesions. Note the positivity in the adjacent normal mucosa from the access site. Fine needle biopsy. #pathology
