This screenshot of a street view doesn't illustrate it, but this is a super stressful intersection for all users (tourists might not notice). Pedestrians overflow off of both sidewalks and corners. The outer lanes are unofficial shared lanes between drivers and pedestrians.

I think the right thing to do is to repopulate the Rust Belt and discourage people from moving to the Sun Belt as the former's cities are built more sustainable than the latter's. I don't think simply shipping the country's homeless to condemned homes in the Midwest is the way to go about it.
