The code of Super Mario World contains an unused translucent level mode, which causes the environment to appear ethereal and was as such possibly intended for ghost house levels. Below is footage of some ghost houses with the mode enabled.

i am not an insider but this is important to note: this statement was made because shayy nuked their socials and deleted their own role in their discord server, leading to everyone worrying and panicking. this statement ended up going farther than expected im sure, but shayy has been dead silent.
