I've officially purchased a hearing aid because the only way to try one out is to buy the damn thing and there's a 60-day trial period to return it. Just have to wait until August for my next appointment to get it. It costs $2000

"Deep Space Nine refutes the utopianism of The Next Generation because it displays the moral compromises captains need to make" no, Deep Space Nine refutes the utopianism of The Next Generation because every time some existentially horrifying shit happens to O'Brien he still has to show up for work.

Bowling shoes that you had to wear were always a ridiculous lie made up by big shoe and the fact that they just suddenly admitted that during COVID and abolished them proves it.

3. Sometimes it's helpful to take a step back from a critique of a particular system and ask yourself: is this set of game mechanics REALLY broken or incomplete, or have I mistaken a bicycle for a basketball?

2. It puts a line under one of the main objections to the "why not just freeform it?" thing; if folks are discussing how to make or modify a toy to achieve a particular set of affordances, blundering in going "why bother with toys when you can Use Your Imagination?" is unlikely to be well received!

I find the "rules are toys" framing of TTRPG design useful for several reasons: 1. The idea that system matters is reducible to recognising that toys have affordances; while there's no "wrong" way to play with a toy, no amount of open-mindedness will readily fit a bicycle through a basketball hoop.

If shitty people stopped getting away with so much shit, then shitty people, who currently notice that it’s very easy for shitty people to get away with so much shit, might instead notice it is no longer easy to get away with shit, and stop doing so many shitty things and getting away with it.

I received a truly comical amount of curly endive in my vegetable subscription. I have created an unreasonable amount of extremely tasty salad. (Endive, radish, apple, candied pecan, smoked goat cheese, dijon mustard vinaigrette).
