Bike lanes are not free parking. They are not bonus sidewalk. They are not a fun place to hang out for "just one minute."

Started getting my kids used to riding with me on the cargo bike because school pick up would be considerably nicer without a car involved, and in the span of 15 minutes we went from "AAAAA I'M GONNA DIE" to "woohoo this is fun! ✨" 😂

This is my dad. Without revealing his age, he's proof that 8-80 infrastructure is life-changing. He lives in a car-dependent Memphis suburb. Last fall, the city extended the Greenline within 0.5 miles of his house. Now he rides 5 miles every day and could get all the way into midtown without a car.

Me rereading my own writing nodding in agreement.

I honestly think it's really fucked up that a lot of urbanists will look at this setup and be like "Yes! 🥰 Cycling is for everyone!" but if you show them a very similar setup that would enable more disabled people who don't use/need wheelchairs to ride, the lack of pedals is suddenly an outrage.

This is why we can’t have nice things like bike lanes, healthcare, UBI. Because a few people need to be the most rich by scamming and looting the markets. They want to control governments around the globe so they are never held accountable for their actions.

Paint continues to not be sufficient bike infrastructure.

I lost my aunt’s address. I mostly reply to her letters but didn’t have one to reference her return address. The “phone book” (aka White Pages) online wanted me to pay. So I went to Google Maps and went down her street until I recognized her house and got the address from the photo of her house.

Re: culture of biking... Be the bike cheerleader you want to see in the world. I get comments every week from folks saying "You'd be proud of me, I (insert new thing they did re: biking)." And I respond excitedly, ask questions about how it went, etc. At first, when this started happening... 1/2

Brought my bike downtown for a ride after work (I usually work from home) started on one trail and then ended up on another (midtown Greenway) and took the chance to visit the Alex Pretti memorial when I realized I was close. Just stayed there quiet for a bit. Shared time with a fellow cyclist.

It’s peak cherry blossom season so the roads are lined with bright pink blooming trees. Biking means you I can immerse myself in the experience of it and take in the spring air. 🌸

I’ve noticed an interesting difference between driving and biking. When you are driving, you can’t wait to stop. Always looking for faster routes, shortcuts and ways to get out of your car quicker. On a bike it’s exactly the opposite. We often find ourselves taking the long route just for fun.
