Street photography is my chillout dilettante hobby. I appreciate the simple magic of being randomly in the right place at the right time with a simple 35mm point-n-shoot.

I always get bummed out by how hard it is to really show off the detail in my paintings because they're so big that photographing them must be done from a distance, as well as lossy compression when uploading. I was able to visit this piece the other day and took some close-up detail shots:

This is one of the biggest paintings I've ever made, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘶𝘴𝘵. It's almost 6 ft tall & wide! A tiny bit of Irving Norman inspiration in there.

Gotta post more of my oil paintings on here! Here's Peacekeeper. This piece is massive, just under 6 feet tall & 4 feet wide. The title and part of the imagery was inspired by a haunting photograph of the LGM-118 Peacekeeper MIRV missile system being tested.

The Struggle (oil on canvas, 33 x 65")

Disgregation. Oil on canvas. 48 x 60”. This was the first painting I ever made where I finally felt like I'd created something genuinely good, after roughly 14 or 15 years of oil painting. Many people have asked to buy it, but I can't bear to let this one go.

Autolysis. Oil on canvas. 60 x 40". I am very relieved it survived a major wildfire last year. I've always been proud of this one as it's the only time I've been lucky enough to witness a piece of mine making a total stranger cry in the gallery.

Fishery

Carved from wood, this 16th-century figure shows a corpse inside a coffin. The body is decaying and worms are spilling from the stomach. The coffin is a memento mori, an object that reminds the viewer of the shortness of human life & the inevitability of death.

We know from other reporting that these are all females, they are not all biologically related, and they both kept the mother company during the birth and worked together to keep the newborn afloat until it achieved its buoyancy. The newborn is the slightly darker whale being boosted to the surface:

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
