LRT: I know we like to make fun of Degrassi for being too dramatic but genuinely it was the only show that represented parental abuse in an open way. When Doves Cry Part 1&2 was the first time I saw my childhood represented. Kids need this kind of stuff. It can save them.

here's the main things for me: 1) like it or not, kids are already experiencing these things, either for themselves or their friends 2) making child abuse content only for adults is WAY too late! 3) the idea that you can tell anything like the same story about 20-somethings is LUDICROUS

Kids need/deserve traumatic films. Films that show death or lasting consequences that aren't resolved almost instantly. Fear, anger, grief and frustration should be part of kids movies. Kids arent stupid, they feel big emotions just like adults, they deserve to see those experiences reflected back.

I've been reconciling this one lately, so this is more of a philosophical one - know what you want from making art. A lot of artists want different things out of the job. I think its important to recognize what your goals are and focus up on making them achievable.

They hope we see the gaps between views and likes and adjust our behavior to suit the platform. Use reels! Use AI! Use these inane features nobody asked for because it might give you a leg up in our mercurial algorithm, and you can go viral and see what the worst of humanity has to say about you!

My tinfoil hat hot take is I think the effort to get us to value views over interaction is about trying to shift agency away from the user and toward the platform. They want us to value what their algo can do over the relationships we build.
