In case anyone was wondering, my colonoscopy today got delayed by over 3 hours because I was too dehydrated to give a urine sample until I had 5 bags of IV saline in me, and they couldn’t just take my word for it.

So MRM wasted months of authors' time lying that they wanted to create fair contracts, then bailed on the authors? What a mess. Deeply disappointing to see historic magazines under the control of such people.

That frustratingly neurodivergent moment when I go to order more toner from my printer from the website I ordered from last time... and it turns out there are two different websites... but both are the exact same company so it literally makes no difference which I order from... so how do I decide?!

I finally have a bracelet made by Lauren! My @peculiarityshop.bsky.social package arrived while I was away at Worldcon. I got back this morning and was finally able to open the package and try it on.

So I’ve been thinking about that story that’s been circulating about the folks whose place was malfunctioning and all how they were all calm and quiet waiting to see if they would crash. And the significance of everyone being silent until it was all over. And I think there’s a detail it ignores:

I just finished reading The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net and first of all, wonderful book, but secondly, as a teacher, I feel so seen. That having been said, Dr. Walden reads as an experienced, senior teacher. So how is she younger than me?!?! I am still a little mad about this.

My writing often slows down over the summer (because I have so much time while on summer break! So why write now when I can write later? Wait, it's already later? Where did my day go?!) but not this July. I hit a bunch of writing milestones, and looking back at them is making me pretty happy.

Woohoo! Got my story in to this month's Apex flash fiction contest. Of course, I was all ready to submit it when I realized it didn't have a title... Anyway, it has a title now, and it's been submitted. Which is good, because I did a ton of research for this one and I wouldn't want to waste that.

I’ve been to at least 25 of these and there are probably a few others I visited on a cross-country bus trip as a teen but I’m not recalling the full itinerary.

Random TBR sort, round 2! See my previous thread for how Round 1 went. Round 2 comes exclusively from my TBR pile - all books I own. No library books this time. I started with 9 books that I thought caught my interest.

Further updates: I have reached the end of this experiment in choosing books. See the thread below for Books 1-8 of the 12 I chose and then piled up in random order using a variety of dice.

Sometimes, figuring out a revision plan for a short story involves making a task list on my computer; sometimes, it involves post-it flags covering most of a notebook page. And sometimes, it involves spending fifteen minutes searching for the post-it flags you know you have but can't find anywhere.

Wow. Things at @peculiarityshop.bsky.social are going QUICKLY! In the time it took to refresh my wishlist so that things would show up as in stock, one of the items I wanted was already out of stock! (And I was refreshing repeatedly) At least I managed to snag the other one that caught my eye.

Used Interlibrary Loan for the first time ever because there was a book that sounded interesting, and my library system couldn't find the one copy they own. I feel weird making the library do this work when it's not for scholarly research or something. But also, libraries are awesome.

Ooh, yay! I've been waiting for this post. (My TBR may be glaring at me angrily right now...)

Me: You know, my imposter syndrome isn't that bad... Also me: Wait. Was that really a story acceptance? Did I read that wrong? I should go back and recheck that email at least three times. Eight acceptances in, and I am still doing this. Every single time.

I wish there were no need for this to exist, but I’m glad it does. Two good organizations coming together to support LGBTQ+ people who need to relocate for their own safety.

Brain hack of the day: Instead of a to-do list, I have a to-do menu. it's summer break and I have lots of free time... but also a lot to get done, and it was a little overwhelming. So last night, I made a to-do menu out of a subset of what's on the to-do list, sorted by category.

We've reached the middle of the year! So it's time to see how I'm doing with my writing. I don't set goals for myself - too stressful - but I do set areas of intention. So let's start with the areas of intention I set for myself in January:

One of my neighbors is burning a LOT of something. Incense, I assume, but maybe something else. I have both air purifiers turned up to max, all my windows open (despite the fact that it's too humid for that) and I'm wearing an N95, and my throat is STILL irritated from it. Ugh!

About a month ago, I was overwhelmed by my TBR pile and couldn't decide what to read. I ended up using some dice to help me make the decision. Four weeks later, here's how it's going:

Voting accomplished! Five races on my ballot, four of them ranked choice. But I stepped off the subway at 4:00, and I was out of the polling place by 4:07.

It's just after 7 AM and it's already 85 degrees farenheit. (The weather app says it feels like 95) The weather is broken and I would like to return it for a full refund please.

Me, last night: I haven't voted yet. I should go vote tomorrow morning (last day of early voting) The weather today: Rain. Then super hot and humid. Me, this morning: Or... I could vote on election day... (which will also be hot and gross, but my polling place is kind of on my way home from work)
