in THWR, characters are not represented by stats, but rather by metaphors. these metaphors, called Tethers, are the pieces that make up a character's identity. players can call upon their character's Tethers and use them during play to shape the environment, their memories, and the narrative overall

as characters explore their memories, sometimes they will explore particularly important ones, called Core Memories. revisiting Core Memories has a greater impact than other memories. when characters go back to Core Memories, they must make a choice about their Tethers, and thus about who they are.

THWR is a game about identity. choosing to change one's Tethers or to stay the same is how characters advance (or not). in this game, making choices about their character's identity is how players engage in character advancement. will you change for the better, for the worse, or not move at all?

In spending more time offline, I've had to practice how to talk about my Actual Play work with people who don't know about APs or TTRPGs. I've found that "improvisational webshow" is a good term for video APs and "improvisational audio drama" works well for audio APs
