Rewatched the '54 Rear Window with the kids tonight. Originally a venue to discuss marriage through the lens of studio film making, the themes really easily mold to the modern ideas of parasocial relationships, "situationships", and social media.

Playing Expedition and so far the only decent emotional beat has been the first hour of the game. Everything else has fallen very very short and seems more in line with a melodramatic soap opera. The performances are good, but the writing is not, I don't get why everyone adores it.

FFT is one of the most political games in existence -- whether explicitly through plots regarding intrigue and lines of succession or implicitly through themes of class struggle and wealth imbalances. Anyone claiming otherwise or shouting that this is "woke" has no comprehension skills.

This rules for a lot of reasons, but especially because it dispels the myths that A.) old games were never political and B.) games like this are just stories, they aren't "about" anything. Should serve as a reminder to anyone writing about games why we should be close reading 'em.
