I think it's actually kind of critical to develop the ability to, and comfort with, just fucking saying when you don't know something, or don't know enough to have formed a strong opinion. Especially given our disinformation situation. Plus it invites people who DO know their shit to the convo

Thinking about it, it’s kinda crazy how big companies thought videogame streaming was going to be the next big thing as they simultaneously worked on making video games the most resource draining edifices they could. Like how were those two things gonna coincide.

transness is a gift. i need every trans woman to understand that by nature of their existence they have been blessed with the ability to pluck the strands of fate with their hands if they choose to. it is not always easy and it is not without hardship but every trans woman is capable of greatness.

I would love a movie about someone making a Jurassic Park revival of dinosaurs theme park thing and then a couple of years later scientists discover dinosaurs looked nothing like that and the park has to manage the reputation fallout and pivot to being like ‘fantasy lizard park’ or something.

Huh, strange coincidence. We’re one of the world’s biggest coal and gas exporters. And, apparently, our climate change policy kinda sucks. Crazy how that’d happen at the same time.

Strange how there was a pandemic, an immigration crackdown, and an unaddressed housing crisis and now Australia has worker shortages all over the place. I wonder if any of that is linked at all.

The ONLY exception I will make to this is if someone manages to make something as transcendentally weird and hilarious as that ‘lady with a big rock destroys glass bridge’ thing. That is honestly the only thing that has ever made me think AI might one day make something good.

One of the variables in 2025, I think, is that there’s previously been a certain implicit idea of a social contract that elites can operate with impunity if everything else works okay - but the that contract has been quite visibly and tangibly broken, across the world. Will things be different?

Fun but unrelated fact: ASIO have a recruiting problem. Nobody wants to be spies. There’s a lot of bs about how young people are getting more right-wing but, if you want the truth, consider that both ASIO and the police are struggling to find anyone who wants to work for them.

We 1) GIVE multi-national companies our finite gas resources FOR FREE to facilitate their profits, and emissions, and 2) CHARGE young Australians for an education that will facilitate an advanced future economy. We took a wrong turn somewhere.

This is kinda like the NDIS in Australia. It started out as this impossible dream of a government actually supporting disabled people and then almost immediately was turned into this punishing gauntlet of bureaucratic bullshit to extract value from us and leave us dying.

This sounds really bad. And, then you look at Australia. In 2023, 80% of incarcerated kids in Australia were in unsentenced detention. By comparison, the below number represents about a third of US incarcerated kids. Few understand just how twisted Australia actually is, I think.

What’s most startling reading this is how much it sounds like a more flattering rendition of a certain Tesla-affiliated billionaire’s life trajectory. ‘Got lucky at 25 but wasn’t actually good at anything so said and did reactionary bullshit to stay relevant until everybody hated him’.

It’s amazing that there’s actually no data that supports what that dude is saying and he still delivers it like it’s just accepted science. It’s the equivalent of saying ‘if you want planes to go faster, you should paint them red. Red is a fast colour.’ and expecting people to respect you.

Thinking about it, I think one of the reasons so many people can’t take COVID’s continued risks seriously (including me) is because so much of our everyday life is about weathering pain, trauma, suffering ‘for the greater good’ and so we struggle to value our wellbeing or that of others.
