Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. Great spotted woodpecker male 🪶

Keep hearing the wild drumroll of the great spotted woodpecker when I open my front door in the morning, I love its fading echo through the trees, almost prehistoric sounding. They are staking territory and looking for a mate at this time I think. 🐦

Snow baths for both Ravens today. I’m sure if I watched other birds as closely I’d see how they all have amazing characters, but Ravens do seem special! I wonder, if more people saw what fun, affectionate characters birds are they would care more about them and their habitats.

What a start to the day! Fed the Ravens their breakfast ( egg and suet nuggets) and left them to it. When I looked back Chips was rolling down the bank having fun, before having a kiss with Gravy! I could never have imagined how personality full Ravens were before I met this pair!

I love how little primroses are blooming in the little nooks and crannies and pockets of warmth despite the snow. Wherever there is a chance of life, plants will grab it.

Saw a Winter-visiting redwing today, in the hedgerow. From Iceland, Scandinavia or Russia. Always a special glimpse for me as this one may never migrate to this spot, even England, again. (They aren’t loyal to their overwintering sites if you didn’t know).
