I just finished the About a Place in the Kinki Region novel, great book. I'm enough of a Shira-head that I think you're fine to watch the movie first, but if you love reading horror fiction I definitely recommend the book.

Le Vourdalak and Kunitsu-Gami were 2 of my favorite experiences of 2024, precisely for the texture and physicality described in this piece.
