President Trump could deescalate this situation right now by directing his federal police force to leave the city. There is no immigration enforcement reason for thousands of officers to remain in Minneapolis. This is political retaliation by a President against his own citizens.

Today, I spoke with Kilmar Abrego Garcia and his wife, Jennifer. In April, when I met with him in El Salvador, Trump said he would never set foot in the U.S. again. This case has never been about one man alone; if the govt can violate the constitutional rights of one, all our rights are threatened.

Kilmar’s freedom today is thanks to the courage of @casaforall.bsky.social, @vanhollen.senate.gov, & @ivey.house.gov, who fought for his right to due process after a wrongful deportation. When others called this bad politics, they stood firm, and in doing so, defended due process for everyone.

This is a huge development. Kilmar has been systematically targeted by the federal government. They wrongfully deported him, and have spent all year trying to retaliate against him for bringing attention to their own mistake.

Here’s the hard truth: Most of Trump’s deportations are legal. If you are outraged about what’s happening, then we have to get serious about pushing Congress to act. That’s the only way out of this. Read more on my newsletter today: open.substack.com/pub/arosaflo...

As much as people want to simplify this tragedy by finding one mistake made by Biden or Trump, you can’t. This suspect was vetted multiple times since his service in Afghanistan, this is not a Biden or Trump immigration issue. The question is what drove this man to gun violence?
