This is a weirdly specific and pedantic post: People should begin wearing poppies starting on the last Friday in October through to Remembrance Day. Wearing it today feels performative rather than respectful.

Going to see a movie I adored as a teenager in a real movie theater shortly. Groovy. Shop Smart, shop S-Mart Evil Dead 2. I'm subjecting my partner to it too, she doesn't like gore, but I've promised it's funny gore? Can't wait to see if it holds up.

Sometimes being an activist can feel defeating. But then I remember that humpback whales were considered so endangered that an entire Star Trek movie was made about them in the 80s. Now, because of the work of thousands, humpbacks are now a classified as a ‘species of least concern’.

Vancouver's TransLink is a rare success story in North American transit, with ridership almost matching pre-Covid levels. It might be the only big 🇺🇸/🇨🇦 agency that has *expanded* total bus service since 2019. I spoke w/CEO Kevin Quinn about lessons from TransLink's rapid recovery. 🧵

The Secret to Vancouver’s Public Transit Ridership Recovery
The Canadian city’s transit agency, TransLink, bounced back from Covid even as other North American systems have struggled. Its leader explains why riders returned.

Thing I miss most about when MEC was good? Having reasonable things at good prices. I need new a cycling ankle pants clip, in days of yore they'd have a bin of them for $4 each. They have one they stock now and it's $30 I just want a Velcro strap for my ankle. That shouldn't cost $30.

Apparently if you try to live properly and get a full night's sleep, work out 3-4 times a week, keep your apartment clean, cook your meals, and maybe try to see friends 1-2 times a week, that takes up pretty much all your time outside of work.

Gen. Wayne Eyre on Paul Wells' podcast said he doesn't like the phrase "warrior culture" Warriors are undisciplined rabble that gets beaten by soldiers. The professional soldier is not a warrior, they are a professional at the skill at arms. Warrior ethos is idiot bro-brained stupidity.

Politics shouldn't be about what messages you de-emphasize because of some grand chess game you're playing. It should be about what messages you care about and want to move forward.

Robert Redford was in so many of my favourite movies, like The Avengers (kidding!) But The Sting is one of my all time favorites, he steals every scene in the star studded A Bridge Too Far. What a legend.

Video game post: Am I just getting old? There have now been three games I picked up that cause me to feel nauseous. A Game About Digging a Hole, Power Wash Simulator and Tavern Manager. (I have excellent taste in games, leave me alone). Is there a graphics setting I can try or something???

Two weeks ago I had my bike stolen. Today, Vic PD let me know they'd found it. What a relief. It went on an adventure and got a bit of a makeover and a cheap dye job. But I also went and bought a new bike, assuming I'd never see Marengo again... So I guess I now own two bikes?

Our client was cycling outside of Ottawa, next thing he knew he was in the ER w major injuries.
@ottawapolice.bsky.social
interviewed the driver (not our client) who said our client came up from behind & cut in front of her at an intersection. Their report blamed the cyclist for the crash 1/3

Almost halfway unpacked from moving after a landlord use eviction. Went from a 900sq ft apartment in a duplex, five units in the house, to a 900sq ft detached house! I didn't even know they came that small! It's a cute 1950s house. Even has "coved" walls, where the walls curve to the ceiling! 1/

Guy Gardner was my favourite comic book character as a kid (yes, I was weird) and obviously I love Nathan Fillion and always have. So yeah, I just had an awesome two hours in a movie theatre. Also Mr Terrific stole the show.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.
