Great game

I've become obsessed lately with "incentives" as a broad concept. "You get what you bonus on" can be applied to myriad other effects in systems, networks, markets and products. Twitter, for example, incentivises bad faith behaviour by rewarding it with more engagement. Many such cases.

It seems to me that Xbox will release two skus again next cycle: 1. Magnus high price PC hybrid with built-in native compatibility 2. Cheaper PC only (no Xbox compat), that also serves as reference device for OEM. #2 is bolstered by play-anywhere initiative, which continues full steam ahead.

Consoles aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, thankfully, but the writing is on the wall. The future of gaming is on PC and mobile/portable devices. I do think in order to remain relevant long term, embracing PC will be required. Especially in the next 10 years and beyond.

Can we have a bit more appreciation for the live service games that don't hit home runs but nevertheless still run for ages with game updates and active communities? Because look how fucking hard live service is man...

This is fascinating to me. First and IMO foremost, they NEVER went properly into PC to see what the result would be. This 6+ month delay shit was always sub-optimal. So this seems like a pure hedge against Steam box and Xbox hardware.

I think Bond/Spencer approached the "this is an Xbox" positioning expecting better on-paper dollar/engagement results - if those didn't match expectations AND there's been notable brand/perception damage, then that ain't good. Agree here, we can expect more brand focus over the next ~10 months.
