On 17 August 1982 John Rentoul and I published a detailed report in the New Statesman reporting that Margaret Thatcherās Falklandās War Cabinet had ācontemplated using Polaris nuclear missiles against Argentina. A Polaris submarine was sent to the South Atlantic to be ready for action 'if need be'.
