The world may be in danger of turning to dust and ashes, but while we can we should remember humanity’s greatest achievements including this belting tune by Manfred Mann. Here’s a video of it I’ve not seen before

I've just seen a video clip of a mid 90s British pop band limbering up for a reunion gig, and my goodness. I'm no oil painting myself but blimey they've disimproved. It reminds me that when I went to see a reunited The Creation in 1993 they were a) younger than I am now and b) still looking cool.-

Both this song and the one by The Jam that has the same title are each tremendous. As is the book that inspired both. And-although it's possibly a heretical opinion- so is the film. If you imagine it being more about 1985 than 1958 it makes a lot more sense. -

Again for those at the back, Reform’s job in that latest by-election wasn’t to win. They’d no chance. I knew this as soon as they chose that Matt Goodwin as the candidate. No, their job was to lose, and blame their loss on things that keep the hate pot boiling. Which is what’s happened. -

A random chat with a neighbour turned into them ranting about "Fifteen Minute Cities" based on a YouTube video they'd watched and anecdotal advice about their daughter getting a traffic fine for driving in a bus lane in Oxford. There needs to be a crash course in media literacy for everyone.-

Some of you will know I’m the son of a preacher man. Some of you know I grew up in Watford. This song was written in my dad’s parish. Years later I found my copy in Past & Present Records, about a hundred yards from where it was written. If you want a description of psychogeography, this is one.

Never mind Reform’s attempts to regulate the sexual life of the nation. My old cat Biggles, dead since 2010 but with more chance of being PM than Farage, has proposed, with an eye on Reform’s demographic (people stuck in a pre-woke past) that the punishment for bigamy be “having two mothers in law”.

The Smiths had drawn a line in the sand dividing the Indie and Pop aesthetic, then along came The Housemartins and stood proudly astride that line. One of the best, and most misunderstood, bands of the 1980s. They were the antidote to both 80s muso wankerdom and Indie scene pomposity & I loved them.

This was an amazing do. So much love for Wendy in the room and rightly so. Her Locomotion nights were properly brilliant back in the 80s/90s. The great music she plays and the lovely people who come along to dance like loons haven't changed at all. She gave me my start as a DJ in 91. I owe her all.

Searching for records to play at a thing tomorrow, I came across this wonderful thing in my collection. An early outing of Bill Oddie’s musical talents. Properly good in a kind of Scott Walker sort of way. I don’t know anyone else with a copy but I bet one of you lot has one.

With the caveat that this is a council by-election and the number of votes cast in total was only a few thousand at most, this is a snapshot of the kind of area that Reform would need to be getting Labour levels of vote share if they were actually going to form a government at the next election-
