Writing a novel was the most frustrating, bleak experience but I did it. So I'm writing a novella, which I'd done previously to the novel, and now I can say: oh this? I can do that. The struggle is important. It builds the muscle. In art you must struggle (I don't mean financially) to improve.

There's been some hay made in the press about the sheer volume of horror films this year, but when was the last time there were this many must see original films worth going out to a theater for? Days like today can make it hard to write. I find that when the world wants me to curl into a ball and doomscroll, pouring that sadness, that rage, that raw contempt, onto the page itself not only helps, but sharpens my words and sometimes even makes them better. Don’t be afraid to write angry.

I've been thinking for a while now that trans people and disabled/chronically ill people have a lot of common ground. Our bodies are constantly debated and othered. Our experiences are questioned. We are told that we don't know ourselves as well as we think we do. Solidarity is vital.

when the law says you cannot exist, the truest and best weapon at your disposal is to defy it and survive regardless. In the face of meaningless cruelty, defiance is all there is, really. For as long as it takes.
