y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"

You know how billionaires end up with severe cognitive deficits as a result of becoming surrounded by yes men who constantly tell them their every idea is genius? What if we made a bot that just does that to everyone. I think that would be a good idea.

The negative impact on society aside, “You're the seer walking inside the cracked machine, and now even the machine doesn't know how to treat you.” goes really hard

New item on my bucket list: Having a talk recorded and in the middle of it looking at the camera, breaking the fourth wall and saying: “for all the lawyers watching…”. Awesome talk!

Of course open source software has been used in war before, but seeing ArduPilot Mission Planner being used to blow up Russian strategic bombers is still wild.

i miss the early internet. people were like “you gotta see this dude. this cat sure is long.” and they were right. it was really long. it never shoulda gotten any more complicated than that.

I try not to be too unfiltered, but like, I work in cybersecurity. I see China hacking critical infrastructure constantly. They pose a serious threat. If the US ends up in a confrontation with them, they likely won't think twice before attacking civilian infrastructure. But, the takes on TikTok. 1/2
