I mean, it was obvious the numbers were going to look like this, but it's still startling to look at them and be confronted by what an absolute fantasy this whole thing is.

People rushing to drop $50k on a new EV and commit to years of payments, insurance, registration, WOF, etc. I'm trying to decide whether to replace the $7 kickstand feet on my "EV" or wait another month. Cargo e-bikes would probably work for a lot more people than you'd think.

When cars kill, it's just the cost of doing business. When e-bikes get popular, suddenly we need strict ordinances to stop "accidents".

Being able to take my scooter on the bus absolutely crushes the travel duration - cutting the walk time down to almost nothing, so instead of 1hr 10 to get from one end of the city to the other, it'll take me just 40 minutes. 30 minutes of that 1hr 10 is just walking to and from the bus stops.

I’m sharing this because gatekeeping in the cycling community has to stop. If our collective goal is to get people out of cars, we cannot attack the exact tools that make a car-light lifestyle possible. E-cargo bikes eliminate excuses. Let people use the tool that works best for them.

I also consider my bike to be a mobility device - they're discussing arthritis in their hip, for me it's arthritis in my spine. It gives me so much freedom, independence, and is a net positive for my health in so many ways (spending time outdoors, exercise, etc).

We need a vehicle weight tax. If you can justify buying an $80k, 3,000 kg Wagoneer to haul one bag of groceries, taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing your pavement wear and tear plus the added danger to our streets. If you can afford the payments, you can afford to stop asking society to subsidize it.
