On the (small) plus side of things personally, I found the show "The Art of Crime" on MHZ Choice, and it's nearly perfect for me - in French, about crimes related to art ... partly set in the Louvre (the Musée D'Orsay would be better for me, but you take what you can get 😂).

I say this as someone who has feelings for many fictional characters. I get it that it’s very easy to grow attached to artificial things, but knowing the difference between fantasy from reality and how to engage with it in a healthy way is very important. AI is destroying that.

Narcissus AI Complex: An individual projects thoughts and emotions onto a program (in this case ChatGPT). The program then mirrors back the views of the individual. (ChatGPT tells them what their ego or fear expects to hear.) They mistake reflection for sentience. They then lose touch with reality.

same for artists. no artist is burnt out because their workload would be less with AI or their project managing software could be assisted by AI. we’re burnt out because our work is not respected enough. what we do is seen as disposable and replaceable, rather than valuable.

You don’t need to send me a story about how it saved you an hour at work or helped you solve a math riddle or even self-diagnose a medical ailment. My thinking will be the same. That is nice and it is still not worth the societal costs.

You can add up all the enjoyable pursuits of LLMs and the work productivity hacks and none of them, separately or together, will be more important than AI’s ecological costs or political disruption. “We” is more important here.

This is one of the absolute toughest things about predatory inclusion — the predation is often fun or a little useful. Criticism makes a reasonable person sound like an asshole. LowerEd weathered me for this kind of social death. So I’ll say it: your enjoyment does not matter & should not matter.
