I'm begging my fellow politicians, Illinoisans, and Americans to realize that right now, we aren't fighting over policy or political party. We're fighting over whether we're going to be a country rooted in empathy and kindness — or one rooted in cruelty and rage.

Just finished reading “Culture Warlords” by Tal Lavin @swordsjew.bsky.social. It’s a gutsy book that gives the reader an inside look at the far-right. It was written just before 1/6, and it seems that everything the book foreshadows has panned out. Now to the read the next installment, “Wild Faith.”

My daughter and I visited the house we lived in when she was a baby, and she was shocked a 29-year-old Navy guy could afford a nice house in a safe neighborhood. That wasn’t crazy in 1996 — but today, a nice house is out of reach for so many young people. That has to change.
