To be fair, John Dickerson did exactly this in 2016 and he stopped the interview immediately and walked out. The media’s response was to not do it again when it should have been to replicate it as much as possible.

I’m old enough to remember when he cut his interview with John Dickerson short. In fact, he does have a limit to his lying: it’s when even he realizes he’s contradicting himself literally every few seconds.

This explains better than I could why Colbert was always my first choice to watch. I have enough in common with him on a personal level to relate and enough different to get a new perspective from. The access station show is a relief because it shows that he won't just disappear into the ether.
