WEAR A MASK!! My hairstylist, who owned her salon, was permanently disabled by long COVID. A client was dishonest about COVID exposure and infected her. She has amazing family to support her, but she had to give up styling and sell her salon bc of her health. Protect yourself and others!!

May her memory be for a revolution. May it deepen our commitments. May her example sharpen our politics. May her life remind us that disability justice is a practice of transforming the world through collective care, accountability, creativity, defiance and imagination.

Alice Wong’s legacy is the political horizon she helped articulate. A horizon where disabled knowledge is central, and care is a shared commitment. She taught us to name grief & rage without collapsing under them, to celebrate disabled brilliance without ignoring the material conditions shaping life

For all the chaos, terror, and uncertainty of 2020/2021, there was beauty and togetherness and humanity. How quickly the populace was to set all of that aside in favor of living normally again. It traumatizes me endlessly.

This is important to know about—it’s a common Covid outcome! One of my many scary first year of
#LongCovid
symptoms was not being able to breathe almost any time I tried to eat. It would start a few bites in & I would gasp for air for the next two hours, my lungs refusing to open properly

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets. no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

Reminder that now is a good time to get any vaccinations you need, especially for flu & COVID. Be sure to mask up when you get them too. You definitely want your vaccines to be fully effective before you do any traveling or gathering for fall or winter holidays (if you do that kind of thing).

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

Let me be clear. As someone who has been professionally involved with the biodefense / biosecurity sector for nearly 20 years, and has worked on biological risk analysis for Covid-19 since early 2020, reducing one's risk of being infected is not health anxiety. It's just smart.

Anyone proposing that an official be allowed to revoke the passport of a citizen for criticizing *this* country would be rightly regarded as batshit insane and deeply hostile to this country's laws and traditions. Proposing that they can do that if we criticize some *other* country? Fuck. That.

I’ll say it a million times, I’ll get a t shirt if I need to: you do owe vulnerable people protection, they have the same right to safety as you. I don’t care if every other progressive signs a blood oath saying otherwise: it is wrong to abandon, endanger, and harm the vulnerable.

Know why the 10-day isolation period was cut to 5 days? Because airline executives lobbied for it. Not scientists or the medical community. Workers, customers, their kids... all expendable. If anyone thinks that current "guidance" wasn't shaped by business, look closer.

For the love of g-d when you go to get vaccinated wear a mask. There are ppl who know themselves to be extremely vulnerable to viral infections who are literally putting off getting the Covid vax they need because busy drugstores full of unmasked faces is too much of a covid exposure risk for them.
