Just a reminder that NWS is considered essential during a government shutdown. Meteorologists will still go to work, forecasts will still be made, watches and warnings will be issued, data will flow. We won’t be paid until the shutdown ends, but we’ll still protect life and property as always.

Finally got around to watching Chernobyl. I think the last lines of dialogue are rather striking, especially with recent events.

I have friends in central, southern, and Alaska region. It’s encouraging to hear that they’re still employed for now. I’m choosing to feel optimistic about the news I hear from NWSEO. I know they’re fighting for us. I’m still fighting for my job back.

That little black spec on the right hand side of this infographic is the total budget of the NWS. How is eliminating positions that exponentially increase economic dividends through enhancing commerce and mitigating/preventing disasters saving money or eliminating waste/fraud?

Something I haven’t seen talked about since yesterday has been concern for fire weather, especially with what has happened recently in California. Fire season is happening very soon.

To everyone at NOAA fired today: You are an incredible human being. You signed up to serve the public. I deeply appreciate what you've given to your team, to NOAA, to our country as a whole. Your firing is unconscionable. It runs counter to the values we stand for. And we will stand up for you.

From a colleague: "make sure to file appeal with MSPB and look into joining 1 of class action suits. Filing for unemployment sometimes goes retroactive and only works once you file, it depends on state. Folks need both an SF-8 and SF-50 to file for unemployment (plus pay stubs)"

All this idiocy happening recently… just gotta keep going, one foot in front of the other. Not allowed to give in or give up. I’ll have my down days, but gotta keep remembering the good ones. Speaking of, you may or may not recognize this classic from June 2023…

At some point it just becomes comical… how embarrassing that qualified & hard-working individuals have to clean up this mess on a Saturday.
