I hate this map because it clearly skews the color scheme towards the higher values, making areas outside of the FL/Gulf Coast seem not as bad. Can we PLEASE do a different scale, and maybe slap just the Carolinas on here?

I know it’s a buzz word, but there are some really good machine learning methods to analyze data spatially. And at NOAA we are trying to provide more GIS friendly formats like KML Zarr and COG #NWAS25

Today marks the 125th anniversary of the Great 1900 hurricane that devastated Galveston, the deadliest single weather event in American history. But it wasn’t inevitable. The decisions made before and after the 1900 storm and relevance of it today rings loudly if we’re listening.

All of NOAA really. We have to find ways to communicate our science, data, products, services, etc, so that people can get the best information.
