In a UK newspaper opinion piece today, Matt Ridley (climate confuser) says: "winter nighttime temperatures have risen faster than summer daytime ones" Um, no, not for the UK which the article is about. In fact, the hottest summer days are warming 2x faster than coldest winter nights. Sigh.

On the day the @metoffice.gov.uk publish a new paper showing a rapidly increasing chance of 40°C days in the UK, the GFS produces a forecast ensemble member showing 43°C in a couple of weeks time. This is an extremely unlikely outcome but highlights that these types of temperature are now plausible.

This is superb. And yes all us climate scientists do have feelings and a conflict of interest, in the sense that everyone we love lives on this planet of ours, so much under threat. All the more reason to take our warnings seriously! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the book.

Really chuffed that my good friend and colleague, Gabi Hegerl, has been awarded a CBE in the King's Birthday Honours. She and Ben Santer were the pioneers who detected human-induced climate change in the mid 1990s as I wrote about in my book Hot Air and why it was such a crucial advance at the time.

Potentially no updates to sea ice indices coming from the US for a while... this is horribly damaging to global climate science. Yes, there are EU and Japanese alternatives to some of these, but multi-dataset inter-comparisons are a critical part of assessing reliability and confidence in the data.

We said goodbye to 6 long term, highly valued colleagues at the NOAA Chemical Sciences Lab yesterday. Andy Langford, Jim Roberts, Wayne Angeline, Bob Portman, Cathy Weable, Jeanne Waters. All retired earlier than planned to spare other jobs. It’s just not the same lab today.

I'm just putting this up there without comment but my local council result in Pinhoe and Mincinglake on the outskirts of Exeter in Devon has just been announced and it has gone to Reform, who are hoovering up seats in this leafy part of the country. Lib Dems also doing well. Tories, Labour badly.
