People of Illinois, we need your help. Get your cell phones out – record what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors. We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

Having a lot of trouble summoning sympathy for folks who now pretend they thought Trump was only going to go after violent criminal immigrants. It was alway obvious that wasn’t true. You just mean you didn’t think he’d go after white people.

Jesus fucking christ. The Trump administration tried to send a bunch of children to Guatemala at 3 am and justified it by saying that the kids just wanted to return to their parents in Guatemala, but the kids actually told the court that they are afraid of being sent back to Guatemala.

“Secret police” are your words, not mine. Seems like you’ve been giving them a lot of thought. Unlike NYPD, your agents don’t identify themselves & wear masks that cover their faces. Now they ignore judges’ rulings, too. What law enforcement agents are supposed to uphold … is the rule of law.

/2 Trump appeals to people for a reason: because they’re shitty people with shitty values from a shitty culture. When he’s a nasty, bullying, bigoted thug that appeals to them because those are their values. I’m not going to try to be more thuggy or bigoted or bullying to find common ground.

My hot takes on the lines separating protest, violent protest, and rioting are a) it is neither violent protest nor rioting for one's body to be acted upon violently by state actors and b) it's dumb to argue about the rest when protestors are sticking to non-violent tactics.

Vance’s comment is quintessentially Trumpian because (1) it’s bigoted and nativist (2) it’s casually obnoxious and belittling (“servants”) (3) it’s either pig-ignorant or deliberately dishonest or a mixture thereof (many immigrants were pivotal to the space program). A shitty ethos for shitty people

This drives me mad. If polls say voters don’t disapprove of disappearing people to gulags, then the voters are fucked up and need to be persuaded or shamed into decency. You can’t just treat a view like that as an unshakeable given. There’s no modus vivendi with a fundamentally indecent electorate.
