My family's health insurance premiums are more than $20,000 per year (my wife, my daughter, and me). This system is insane.

A small tariff that is paired with a robust industrial policy, including subsidies, as well as government support for unions (again: what Biden was doing) works. Jacking up tariffs by itself, especially to these levels, is suicide for the country and its working class.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

I love this so much. We need to stop segregating basic commercial (restaurants, shops) and residential uses in cities, and we need to stop requiring vehicle access and parking as a condition of use. Allow for alternatives! Otherwise we'll never build a future that doesn't depend on cars.

The Dems have a big demographic problem. A lot of comfortably well-off older voters hold the Democratic Party hostage from exploring more significant policy solutions to real problems. Many of these older voters embrace an ostensibly left aesthetic, but are not willing to make material compromises.

To understand some of these policy domains clearly, we need to break out of the regulatory-deregulatory dichotomy. "Regulation" isn't just a dial you turn up and down, it's thousands of moving parts. So what we need isn't MORE or LESS of it but a regulatory regime that does what we want it to do.

Trump ending the production of pennies is a legitimately good policy decision. I've been arguing with rightwingers for 20 years about this, who argued that pennies are "patriotic". I'm guessing they all have conveniently forgotten their "patriotic" devotion to the penny now.

I certainly understand why people think this way, but consider that PE explicitly thrives on NIMBYism and the resulting failure to build enough housing to keep up with demand. They literally disclose this in their shareholder communications. The best way to beat PE is to legalize housing and BUILD!
