good morning! new from me in @strangehorizons.bsky.social today, a review of Alexandra McCollum's Into the Midnight Wood, in which I vent some frustrations with the current state of the cozy romcom fantasy novel (I liked this one tho!)

Most of what I heard about ROMANCE AT HOPE RANCH was…not great, but then you see the ratings. And therein lies Hallmark's problem. The cable audience that remains is, as friend noted, the Fox News crowd—a very different demo than younger group more likely to subscribe to another streaming service.

one of the funny truths you learn if you write in the cross-genre romance space is that people who don't like the sex will hallucinate massive amounts of it in your book, and people who wanted more sex will be able to estimate an exact sex word count within like 75 words. They'll both be mad tho.

I have said it before & I will say it again: sometimes nothing sells a book like a 1 star review. I am certain this 1 star review will sell this book to at least one of you.

I've now watched 4 out of 6 episodes of Hotel Costiera, starring Jesse Williams, and, well, I'm glad it got made. An Italian show with an American (USA) lead! Fixer fixes things and searches for a missing woman! And I do think it was canceled too soon!

I am channel surfing, and accidentally ended up seeing an episode of old Inspector Lynley. Guess what? First thing I saw was James McAvoy staring sadly out of window! And then, a minute from that, there's Idris Elba! It's the second episode of first season! Payment in Blood! From 2003!
