Demonstrators brought a city bus Saturday to the stairs of the Manitoba Legislature, where about 100 people called on the province to better support transit through dedicated funding.

Imagine talking about any other public service this way. Does the government keep public hospitals “afloat”? What about when it gave Marine Atlantic $169 million to support its operations in 24/25? The media does the bidding of those who want to private Canada Post when they adopt this framing.

Nothing gets my blood boiling on a Monday morning more than receiving an email from a nonprofit org in Winnipeg that declared $31 million in revenues and assets last year, asking if our org, which declared just over 1% of that last year, if we assist someone to find help to buy a $500 walker.

Guessing they put this out asap because they’ve been getting nothing but angry calls and emails from season ticket holders saying they’re done after April. To that I say: we’ll see. Can someone get those season ticket holders to call me so I can also bring them up to speed on Thomson and ICE?

Also, many will argue that snow clearing, like Transit Plus, has gotten considerably worse since it much of it was outsourced. Snow clearing is a public service that impacts so many people. Maybe leaving these services up to the lowest bidder is a bad idea and we should bring them back in house.

Pay people fairly to shovel, and the city becomes more accessible for all. Our sidewalks in Winnipeg suck every winter. There are lots of people who would appreciate the extra cash to shovel them. Pretending that these issues require doctorate degrees to solve drives me bonkers.

I have what should be the easiest bus route in Winnipeg: one bus from the Exchange to Wolseley. And yet somehow the Transit overhaul makes me arrive home 10 minutes later than before the changes.

It's mind blowing what a complete failure this new transit system is for both ridership and the downtown businesses that depended on the foot traffic. Abysmal service, fewer stops, and the sidewalks barely walkable from snow, let alone trying to get a wheelchair or walker through.

I had a wild conversation with a bus driver a couple days ago, and he believes the reason Graham was closed to buses is because the city and businesse want it to be harder for poor and unsheltered people to get downtown

As someone who lives downtown and uses transit as one of my modes of transportation, taking the bus to most places from downtown has become an awful experience.

At this rate it feels like a lot of sports reporting just functions as PR for these athletes. So are you a journalist or are you doing PR? Is that an unfair question to ask?

Sports reporting makes itself easy by creating an apolitical bubble to exist in. Any sports reporter at any point can take a step away from talking about skill and gameplay to ask a player to comment on their words or actions.

"I don't really have any thoughts on that" This is the world that most NHL athletes get to exist in. It's oozing with privilege. They don't have to have thoughts on anything. They get to walk around in a state of arrested development where the only thing that matters is their skill and gameplay.

Contributed to Winnipeg Transit’s bottom line today by taking the bus one block down Main Street because it was easier than trying to roll on the sidewalks that are supposed to be cleared to a paved surface in the downtown core according to the City’s own policy.

When they inevitably acknowledge his gold medal win at the next Jets home game, he’ll get a standing ovation from the fans.

After the city implemented leading pedestrian intervals, it felt a lot safer getting around downtown. Banning right turns on red would make it even safer.

I am certain that right turn on red is the most likely policy that will kill me or a family member. I see drivers daily failing to even pause before blowing the red light on a turn, but also drivers failing to yield to a pedestrian with signal because they don’t even know that the light has changed.

You cannot ethically administer a dignified death without first guaranteeing a dignified right to life. That’s the conversation we need to be having.
